About Spade Kayaks UK

Spade Kayaks was born back in 2014 with the inception of the Ace of Spades. The ambition was straightforward. It was to create a kayak for paddlers with ambition, paddlers who wanted to explore and develop. This meant top-end kayakers, but also grass-roots boaters who were just stepping onto the river.

The Ace became a firm favourite with paddlers around the world. Adventure kayakers loved its robust and dependable nature. Coaches could rely on it for long seasons on the river focusing on their students. And beginners could get to grips with the sport and progress without having to pick up a new boat every step of the way.

From there, Spade developed and expanded its quiver to include a whole range of white water choices. There are steep creek chargers, big water specialists, downriver play kayaks, and so much more to come in the future. The key to developing excellent kayaks? Well for Spade, it’s by keeping it in the hands of kayakers at every step.

That passion for the right boat for the right paddler is what drove us here at B.S. Life to set up Spade UK and bring the Spade Kayaks range to the UK market. Along with our other brands of Hou Canoes and Verano Inflatables, we like to think we offer something for everyone who wants to take to the water.

This new venture, which started in autumn 2022, may still be in its infancy, but we’re already making moves. With our distribution centre based in the north of England, we’re in easy reach of all four corners of the country, as well as being a short hop over to Ireland. We’ve already got a demo fleet north of the border in central Scotland, and have dealers across the UK ready to get you set up with your new Spade kayak.

1% for the Planet

When you’re heavily involved in a sport that revolves around water, you forge a close bond with the natural environment. We know because we also spend our days watching weather forecasts and scanning maps to understand catchment areas better.

When you’re so invested in the environment, don’t you want to know that the companies you’re buying from are also invested?

Spade Kayaks is proud to be a member of the 1% for the Planet Movement. This means that 1% of annual sales are donated to an environmental non-profit organisation. In our case, it’s the Free Rivers Fund.

1% for the Planet was set up back in 2002, after a pair of businessmen, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Matthews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, bonded over their shared passion of the outdoors. Since its inception, companies across the world have donated over $150 million to sustaining and improving the environment.

The Free Rivers Fund is an organisation close to the heart of kayakers. Rivers across the world are being dammed, stemming their flow. While this heavily impacts our recreational time and our ability to enjoy some world-class white water, it’s having a far wider-reaching impact too. Communities are being affected, habitats are destroyed, and untouched areas have tracks and trucks driven through them.

The Free Rivers Fund pairs paddle sports organisations with activists on the ground. They have worked on rivers from the Balkans, across Europe, and in the UK.
